  1. Derek, Kim and I have a huge void in our hearts. I’ll never forget all the good times hunting, fishing and your jokes. Gonna miss getting your advice on things. Miss you terribly.

  2. Unfathomable. Derek was one of the world’s best people. He was genuine, brilliant, and unapologetically himself. I admired him so very much. He was the greatest true friend anyone could ask for. He often quoted the Bible and was an example of Christ’s love to all lucky enough to call him “friend”. I will miss him tremendously.
My heart is broken for y’all.

    Jenna and Lydia,
Your Daddy loved you with everything he had. He was SO proud of his girls! Y’all were his world. You are loved by anyone and everyone that knew your daddy, always and forever.

    I’m so sorry.

  3. In this photo, Derek reminds me of our granddaddy, possibly more than any other cousin does. Perhaps it’s the twinkle in his eyes. But I can’t help still seeing that precious little one with the hair that wouldn’t lay down even when damp, and remembering how he let me carry him all around Bigmama and Granddaddy’s on his very first Thanksgiving, just happy as could be on my hip, strange teenager though I was. 😄
Sending much love to Uncle Johnny, Aunt Linda, Michelle, David, Dereks’s wife and children, and the entire family.
