Nelda Scott Smitherman

Nelda Scott Smitherman

WILTON Nelda Scott Smitherman, age 79, of Wilton, went home to be with the lord on September 25th, 2019. Visitation will be 1 pm Monday afternoon, September 30th, 2019, at Charter Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2 pm. After the services, the burial will take place at Ryan’s Crossing Cemetery.

Nelda Jean Scott-Smitherman was born on February 12th, 1940, to her loving parents Virgil and Thelma Scott.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for the majority of her working years and diligently gave care to those who needed it. However, the most important role she played came after being a nurse.  Raising her daughter, Jessica, and being the best mother, and later on grandmother, was her most rewarding ambition. There was nothing in the world she loved more than her family. Most recently, her cherished hobby was to watch her granddaughters direct the Montevallo High School Troubadour Pride as their Drum Majors for the 2018 and 2019 school years. She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Brierfield, AL and was passionate about her church family and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Every Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and all the other holidays, were spent with MiMi showering her family in love. She is going to be dearly missed by her entire family and friends.

Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, James Virgil and Thelma Marie Scott, both of Dogwood, AL.

She is survived by her loving husband, of 52 years, Jesse William Smitherman, of Wilton, AL.; daughter, Jessica Smitherman Martin (Michael), of Wilton, AL.; granddaughters, Michaela Savell Martin, and Miranda Michelle Martin, both of Wilton, AL.; brother, Jimmy Scott (Nancy), of Dogwood, AL.; nieces, Melissa Scott Barrow (Galen), of Tallapoosa, GA, Hannah Scott Wolfe (Brian), of Calera, AL.; great-nephews, Ethan Scott Barrow, of Tallapoosa, GA., and James David Wolfe, of Calera, AL.; great-nieces, Audrey Savannah Barrow, of Tallapoosa, GA., and Elizabeth Sophia Wolfe, of Calera, AL.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Montevallo High School Marching Troubadours.

  1. Jessie and family.
We are so very sorry to hear about Nelda. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Cherish your wonderful memories.

  2. I am so sad to know that my long-time friend is gone from her earthly home, but happy for her to be with God. I did not even know that she had been sick for a while or I would have gone to see her. We grew up together in Wilton, and when we were only little girls, we visited together and played together. Prayers for all of you.
