Peggy Ann (Skelton) Patterson

Peggy Ann (Skelton) Patterson, age 77, of Hoover, Alabama gained her angel wings on October 23, 2020. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother whose life was taken too soon in an accident.

A lifelong Bluff Park resident, she began her working life at Elmore’s followed by Loveman’s in Birmingham where she ultimately met her late husband Floyd L. Patterson, Jr. (Pat). She later spent years teaching of God’s love at Shades Crest Baptist Church to countless children. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren and was considered a mother or MawMaw to many more.  She was the ultimate caregiver who put everyone before herself.  She enjoyed her Diet Coke, flowers, Elvis, and laughing with her husband. You could often find her watching I Love Lucy, Hallmark, or Wheel Of Fortune. She will forever be remembered for her love, patience, grace, and on occasion stubbornness. She always had time for her grandchildren and leaves behind beautiful memories.

She is loved by her children, Tammy Duren and Debby (Scott) Forester; four grandchildren, Casper Duren, Arianna Elaine Duren, Haley Forester, and Holly Forester; sister, Shirley (Phillip) Vines; brothers, Randy (Elizabeth), and James (Frances) Skelton. Loved dearly by many nieces and nephews as well.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Floyd Patterson who recently received his wings on 7/31/20; parents, James Skelton and Ben Ella Cowart Skelton, and brother, Raymond Skelton.

Visitation will be held in the Reception Room at the Riverchase Church of Christ in Hoover, AL 10/29/20 1:30 – 3:30 PM. Entrance is in the back of the church.

She will be laid to rest the following day 10/30/20 at the National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. – 2 Timothy 4:7-8

  3. This message is from her brother Randy Skelton, Peggy I miss you more than I can express. You as my sister, I remember the good times when your family Pat, Tammy and Debby would come to the lake with us. I think I was the happiest just watching everyone have a wonderful time. There are so many wonderful memories between you, Pat, Liz, and myself. I hope that you are at peace, no more pain, or sadness. You absolutely loved your Grandchildren. If you looked sad, to make you look happy all that was necessary was to mention your babies.
You will be extremely missed. I love you,
    Randy

  7. Mrs. Patterson was the first neighbor I met when my family moved to Alford Ave. My dog ran over to the Patterson’s house one morning and my 5 year old self chased after her barefoot early one morning. I had stepped on something sharp and cut my foot open. Mrs. Patterson heard me crying and carried me into her home to tend to my injury. Now, 35 years later I’ll never forget her kindness. I also remember her taking Debbie and I to vacation bible school and her support when my mother passed away. I’m so very sorry for this loss in your family. I know she will be greatly missed.

  8. Debby and Tammy, you have our sincere sympathy in the loss of your sweet mother. She was such a good mom and so generous with her time and love for others. She was a great cookie mom for our Troop 27 Girl Scouts and always a helpful hand in our activities. Our hearts go out to your family. Sincerely, Sarah and Tom Baydala

  9. Debby, I’m so very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was one of sweetest ladies I had the pleasure of knowing and growing up with. Your mom helped raised my children Ali and Colton Snow, from 6 weeks old, until they started school. You and your family have been in our prayers, and if I can be of any help please contact me. God Bless You All!
