Peter Anthony Sebastian

October 22, 1940 – August 10, 2019

Peter Anthony Sebastian, age 78 of Calera, AL, died peacefully at Shelby Baptist Hospital on August 10, 2019.  He was born in Hinsdale, IL on October 22, 1940 to Peter and Kathryn Sebastian.  Pete was married to his best friend, Nora Anna Thomas Sebastian for 56 years.  His children, Bill Sebastian (Tracie) and Kathy Carden (Tony), remember him as strong, big-hearted and fiercely “having their back” at all times.  Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, Rebekah Ramey (Aran), Nick Sebastian (Britni), Brooklynn, Sarah and Dylan, as well as six great grandchildren.  Pete is remembered as the strong elder brother of Tom (Marilynn), Nick, Paul (Dee) and Maggie (Tim).  Pete was predeceased by his parents and his grandson, Michael.

Pete graduated Downers Grove High School (Illinois) and enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1959 – 1963.  He served in the Pacific, Great Lakes and San Diego.  Following his military service, Pete married Nora on April 20, 1963.  Pete worked in telecommunications his whole adult life with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, Western Electric, Bell South, and International Bell.  For a time, he held his dream job – teaching for the Bell System in Lisle, Illinois.  Eventually Pete developed his own company, Peach Tree Communications.  He held an international reputation as an outstanding telecommunication specialist.

Pete loved to spend time with his family, telling long tales.  His booming laughter was infectious. Pete was never one to sit still.  He enjoyed woodworking and helping others with their projects.  He was the dependable brother, who was always there for his siblings.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Calera, AL. Rev. Maggie Sebastian will be presiding.
