William “Ricky” Robert Ricks, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 7, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was born December 25, 1950, in Birmingham, to Robert Lee and Maye (Pitts) Ricks. He was a 1968 graduate of Ensley High School and later in life went on to get his Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University. He married Ann Fowler on June 21, 1975, after a whirlwind romance, in which they were engaged after a week and married a month later. He worked as a nuclear specialist with Southern Company, but his work previously brought him to Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia. Ricky was a dedicated father, a talented musician, and a master handyman. He is survived by his wife, Ann; a daughter, Heather Ricks; a son, Stephen Ricks; a brother, Charlie Ricks; and many sisters/brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family, friends, and others whose lives Ricky touched are invited to the interment on Friday, December 14 at 9:30 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115). A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12 noon at Christian Life Church (2490 Valleydale Rd., Birmingham, AL 35244). In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to the homeless ministry at his church where he enjoyed volunteering his time. Please visit CLCBHAM.com, go to the giving tab, and pick the homeless outreach option to honor Ricky.
