Harold Ray Norris
Harold Ray Norris, 85, also known as HR, Harold Ray (when he was in trouble) and most affectionately known as Gramps, which was his favorite title,
was born in Walker County AL on October 10, 1936 to Alfred and Vetra Norris.
He came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was a young teenager.
He went to be with his Savior on May 27, 2022 while he was inĀ Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham AL, after his health declined from being sick over the past several months.
Harold and his wife of 46 years, Amelia, have lived in their current home in Alabaster AL for 43 years. They have been members of First Baptist Church of Alabaster for nearly 40 years.
After graduating from Pickens County High School he attended Auburn University for a year until he entered the Army, where he served over 2 years. After that he entered his occupation in the transportation/trucking industry. He worked in management and sales for Transcon Trucking and a few other major carriers before retiring after 40+ years of service.
He was an outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman for many years. They spent a lot of time in Colorado where he loved to hunt and snow ski with friends and family. They enjoyed traveling throughout the continental US, and visited places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Austria. He also loved playing golf with family and regular golf buddies. If you only know one thing about Harold he was an absolute avid Auburn sports fan, but Auburn football was his all time favorite. He was a stump grinder for the past 20+ years and known by many as the stump guy. He was respected and appreciated by many of his tree and landscaping business friends. He was grinding stumps up until a few weeks before he passed away, doing what he enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Vetra Norris.
Harold is survived by his wife and love of his life Amelia Norris, his stepdaughter Christie (Bill) Brewer of Cartersville GA, his brother Maurice Norris of Lowndesboro AL. He is also survived by three grandchildren Beth (Seth) Hamby of Vestavia AL, Billy (Sarah) Brewer of Auburn AL and Brett (Eryn) Brewer of Ocala FL, along with his 9 great-grandchildren. He loved his friends and family very much.
