Corder Samuel Reynolds Jr. of Houston, Texas passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 in his home at Town Village Vestavia Hills after a courageous fight against T-cell lymphoma. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Davis Reynolds, her daughter, Diana Spencer (James), granddaughters, Shannon Diane Poole (Chris), Stephanie Michelle Smith (Jason), of Birmingham, Alabama, and his children, Ross Stuart Reynolds (Deanna) of Corpus Christi, Texas, David Corder Reynolds (Peggy) of Exxex Junction, Vermont and Martha Reynolds Chance (Danny) of Plano, Texas. Born in Houston, Texas, November 9, 1928, his family moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1940, where he graduated from Byrd High School in 1945. After earning a B.S. degree from Texas A&M in mechanical engineering in 1950 and a reserve commission in the U.S. Army, he returned to Shreveport where he was employed by United Gas Pipeline Company. He was called to active duty in November of 1951 and in May of 1952, he was assigned to the First Calvary Division in an engineer combat battalion stationed in Japan and later served in Korea. After the Korean Armistice, he was discharged from the army in 1953 returning to Shreveport and his former employment. He became Chief Engineer of Gulf Columbia Transmission Company in 1956. He was employed by Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company in various managerial capacities. In retirement, Corder and his wife, Mary moved from Shreveport to Birmingham, Alabama, where he loved fishing at their lake home, hunting in the beautiful woodlands of Alabama, amateur gunsmithing, where he restored and carved antique guns, and finished beautiful gun stocks. A memorial service with honor guard will be held on June 26, 2020. Burial will be in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, under the direction of Charter Funeral Home in Calera, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Veterans Association 7100 Aaron Aronov Dr. Ste. A, Fairfield, AL 35064.
