David Eugene Berney, Jr.

David Eugene Berney, Jr., age 55, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 14, 2020.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, A. E. ”Gene” & Margaret Berney and William G. & Mary Carrigan, as well as an uncle, L. Neal Berney.  D.J. is survived by his parents, David and Joyce Berney of Pelham, AL; sister, Michelle R. Berney of Pelham, AL; uncles, Fred Berney of Pelham, AL, Daniel Berney (Lisa) of Snead, AL; aunt, Norma Lundy of Pensacola, FL; and many extended family members.

D.J. had many hobbies and interests.  He loved his greenhouse and working with plants and flowers.  He enjoyed fishing, target shooting, camping and waterskiing.  He also loved attending Mustang Car Shows, having been a member of the Heart of Dixie Mustang Club in Montgomery, Alabama for many years.

D.J. enjoyed reading his scriptures, history and current events, as well as, motivational and religious books associated with his church.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as a missionary for the Lord in California.  He held other callings in the Church as well.  He attended and was very active with the Single Adult Program.  He helped to plan many YSA – SA conferences and dances.

His work career took him into sales and service of banking equipment with his father.  He always made the customers’ needs his top priority, just like his dad.

D.J. loved his family and all his many friends and enjoyed being with them all.  He will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow immediately at 11:00 a.m., both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2720 Cahaba Valley Rd, Pelham, AL 35124.  Burial will be in Southern Heritage Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Moore, Mike Grantham, Brad Hardisty, Joey Colquett, Greg Brown, Kevin Schrum, Dave Arnott, and Daniel Berney.

Due to COVID19, it is recommended that masks be worn and social distancing be remembered.  If anyone has a health risk, you might wish to view the service through live-streaming.
