James Edward Walker
James Edward Walker, July 7, 1943 ~ March 12, 2016. Coffee drinking, workaholic, meticulous, Bama Fan; James “Sonny, Peanut” Edward Walker, age 72, died with the coming of daylight saving time. Sonny was born at home in Joppa, AL to the late George Edward and Lois Harrison Walker squeezed between two lovely sisters, Judy and the late, Mary Nell. An excellent student while playing basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1961 from Arab High School, moving to Birmingham shortly thereafter to work briefly at Winn Dixie. Sonny’s true workaholic nature developed as a telephone man in his 37 years with Ma Bell and spin-offs then as an independent contractor. He spent seven years serving his country in the Alabama National Guard. Enjoying watching his 50th Super Bowl was a special treat but nothing compared to watching his beloved Crimson Tide win its 16th National Championship Title. RTR! Lifelong interest in golf lead to winning the 2001 A8L Audi he loved so much. James is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara; children, Dusten, Wendy and Era; and grandchildren, Krystian, Breanna, Kyrsty, Anthony, Ryan Patrick, Kane; great grandson, Carter; sisters, Judy and the late, Mary Nell. The Memorial Service will be held on March 15 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to American Cancer Society or Telecom Pioneers Foundation.
