Karen Snelling

Karen Snelling born March 13, 1950 in Ludlow, Massachusetts moved often as the daughter of an Air Force pilot, even spending some time in England. Her last move was to Birmingham, Alabama where she met and married Michael Snelling in 1967. As a young mother she was devoted to her children, volunteering at school, church, and as a Girl Scout leader. Karen served at Our Lady of Sorrows as a Eucharistic Minister, member if the Folk Group, and a volunteer to the Adoration Chapel. She and her husband mentored other couples for years through Marriage Encounter. As foster parents they loved and cared for many children until they were either reunited with their families or adopted into loving homes. From that experience she found her passion for the unborn. Karen volunteered as a sidewalk counselor, a prayer warrior, an event organizer and more until, she help found The ProLife Educational Resource Office. There she connected mothers with resources, provided information, and connected many pro-life groups. She retired as the office manager in 2005 after almost twenty years of service. After retirement, she moved away from her home of 40 years in Homewood to the quiet rural area of Jefferson County to enjoy the peaceful nature and wildlife visiting her. Later she joined St. Aloysius Church. She passed away quietly on May 7, 2022 after a brief illness. Karen is survived by her loving husband of almost 55 years Michael Snelling Sr.; son, Michael Snelling Jr. (Kim); daughter, Tammie McLaughlin (Darren); and youngest son, Jordan Snelling; grandchildren, Patricia Bozeman, Kristopher Snelling, and Anna Luna; and several great grandchildren. Her services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bessemer, with Mass starting at 11 a.m. Visitation will be there one hour prior to her service. Inurnment will follow Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Columbarium in Homewood. In lieu of flowers please make donations to “Her Choice Prolife Office” or your local Catholic school.
