Mary Ann Blaydoe

Mary Ann Blaydoe

Mary Ann Blaydoe, 78, passed away quietly in her sleep in December 26, 2021. She was born in Glenn Ridge, New Jersey. Mary Ann grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, in the community of Bush Hills, where she attended Ensley High School.

She later graduated from Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. She then went to work for the Birmingham City Schools and, eventually, the Mobile County Schools, where she spent a total of 38 years as a teacher.

Mary Ann enjoyed various needle work projects including Christmas stockings and ornaments, planning family reunions and Christmas parties, trivia, puzzles and other games, along with watching Auburn football. During her years in Mobile, she spent time fishing, crabbing and camping. She was also involved with the Krewe de Bienville during Mardi Gras for a number of years. And whenever possible she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years she also found great joy in her beloved dog, Bandit.

Mary Ann leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Louie M. Blaydoe, Jr.; sister, Susan Cummins; children, Greg Waldrip (Patti) and Lisa Waldrip Heerten (Glenn); granddaughters, Beth McCubbins (Jake) and Anna Waldrip; sister-in-law, Rita Classen; along with other family and friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shelby County Humane Society. Please visit stjude.org or shelbyhumane.org to donate.
