Rebecca “Becky or Aunt Bec Bec” Joyce Lamonica, age 70, of Montevallo passed away early Thursday morning, July 29, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Bessemer, Alabama on July 14, 1951 to Junior Brasher and Edna Smitherman Brasher. Becky worked over the years in Montevallo at University of Montevallo and finally for Montevallo High School where she was known as Ms. Lamonica. She is preceded in death by her parents Junior and Edna Brasher; daughter, Kimberly “Kim” Yancy (Scott); and sister, Shelia Smith. Becky is survived by her daughter, Kathy Yancy (Chad); grandchildren, Tristian, Lauren, Scott, and Sarah; sisters, Wanda Gothard (Mark) and Kathy Smith (Phillip); brother, Samuel “Sammy” Brasher; brother-in-law, Marty Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; also her very best friend for many years, Pat Jett, and countless other friends. There will be a Celebration of Life for Becky Sunday, August 1, 2021 held at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

  2. We met in a strange way,,,, became friends with a major common interest,,,, i gave her an official title which we laughed about —- she has been known for many many years as my ‘ex-wife-in-law. R.I.P my dear friend. Lov you!

  4. She was one of the highlights at MHS when my family and I lived in Montevallo. Always such a kind woman and so very helpful. I am so sad to learn of her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the community she served and loved.
