Robert O. (Bob) Blain
Robert O. (Bob) Blain began his walk up The King’s Highway to meet his Lord & Savior on February 7, 2020. Bob entered his journey on earth on September 3, 1935 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Bredis Vivian Blain. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Melanie Ann Brown (Doug) of Odenville, AL; grandsons, Christopher Hatley (Stacy) of Odenville, AL and Matthew Hatley (Brooke) of Pell City, AL; granddaughters, Pamela Sanderson (Sandy) of Odenville, AL and Andrea Brown of Royston, GA; great grandsons, Lennon Hatley and Lincoln Hatley; great granddaughters, Fiona Hatley and Kennadi Sanderson; and brother, Larry Blain (Cathy) of Moody, AL..
Bob grew up in the West End & North Highlands areas of Birmingham, where he received the gift of salvation from his Lord & Savior on April 12, 1949 at Calvary Baptist Church where he was a member until 1965. Bob’s education was at Lee & Hemphill Elementary Schools, Adamsville Jr. High & Phillips High School where he graduated in 1952. Bob led a varied and rewarding career in the Surveying, Engineering & Realty fields, working at J.M. Keel & Associates, Walter Schoel Engineering Co., The Rime Companies, Blain Realty Co., Paul B. Krebs & Associates and B&N Surveying Co. Inc., where he was the CEO & owner in Alabaster until his retirement in 2001. Bob moved to Alabaster in 1986 where he continued his Church Life at First Baptist Church of Alabaster. Bob’s motto which he wishes to share with everyone is a fitting tribute to his life on earth – “I had rather be a failure than to be a success at anything unpleasant to my Lord & Savior.”
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following, both in the chapel of Charter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harless Cemetery.
