Billy Hinds of Helena passed away April 26. He was a life ling resident of Helena and member of Helena United Methodist Church. Billy is survived by wife Frances Spain Hinds. Daughter Kathy (Rod) During, Son Brian (Tracey) Hinds, Daughter Jennifer (Brad) Farrell.  Grandchildren: Austin & Forrest During, Rachael, Rebecca & Garrett Hinds, Katie Cooper. 1 great granddaughter, Audrey During. He was preceded in death by his parents: George & Lorene Hinds, Sisters: Louise Bartlett, Pat Parish & Pam Roland. Billy was a graduate of Thompson High School class of 1956 where he was a guard on the Warrior Football Team and member of the FFA. He served 6 years in the National Guard as 1st Cook Specialist. Billy will be most notably remembered as “Mr. Billy”, Helena’s most beloved police officer. He joined the force as a volunteer in 1969 while working other full time jobs until he devoted himself full time in 1983. Over the years Billy worked for Cardwell Furniture, S&S Appliance and Connor’s Steel among others. Billy loved serving his community as a police officer. He was proud to represent Helena & strived to make it a safe & welcoming hometown for all. He made citizens & visitors alike feel they had arrived in “Mayberry”. Family was his priority. He would often brag to complete strangers how he & Frances were high school sweethearts and had been married 56 years. He would share the latest news of his children & grandchildren showing the love & pride he had for each of them. Services for Billy will be Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Helena United Methodist Church. Visitation 10:30 – 12:30. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 with burial to follow in Helena City Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Helena United Methodist Church, New Beacon Hospice or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
